Finally... Surgery Week.

After what seems like a very slow march towards May 29th, surgery day, we are finally almost there!  It's been several weeks of additional tests, jangling nerves and trying to keep busy within The Maven's limits with her Vertigo symptoms.

Tuesday will be an all day marathon of pre-op tests, lab work and medical exam.  And then Wednesday, The Maven will report to the hospital by 5:30am.  Not fun for a "not a morning person", but worth it to her to get this ball rolling.

Not sure of surgery time, they are not sure themselves.  Apparently there will be two Acoustic Neuroma surgeries done that morning and they haven't told us who will go first or when.  They expect the surgery to last 4-5 hours.  I will be posting on Facebook when the surgery is over, not sure when I will get a chance to post on the blog, but I will get a quick post up as soon as possible.  First 24 hours, The Maven will be in ICU and then 4-5 days in a regular hospital room depending on her recovery.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the encouragement, prayers and support I received through comments on this blog and emails.  The Maven has read them all and I know she draws comfort from the fact that she has so many people pulling for her and keeping her in their thoughts and prayers.

This WILL be a successful surgery.
The Maven WILL lose that sense of dizziness, fatique, headaches and nausea.
She WILL get back to her life of work, independent living, and normal  everyday activities that we all at times take for granted.

 She WILL.

Coming from a family that has seen 2 brain tumours, I can honestly say you will be shocked how well the patient appears after. My sister had a recurrent meningioma and had 3 surgeries. The tumor had penetrated her eye socket and she had a 12 hour surgery and reconstruction. When she woke up she was "starving". She recovered amazingly well. Her second surgery saw her with her head shaved on the OR table when the surgeon walked in and said he had to cancel as a piece of equipment had not arrived. He was terrified to tell her, but she laughed it off, hopped off the the table and announced she was going out for a pancake breakfast, bald head and all.

My cousin had her brain surgery the other way. Through the artery from her groin into her head. No visible scar. She facebooked herself the morning after and was sent home after 48 hours.

The main thing is that the brain needs
rest. he scars heal fast and while you feel OK and look OK, it is very invasive and rest is important. You are at the worst part now...the waiting is the worst of it. (and for you all on the other side of the OR doors).

Wishing your beautiful daughter smooth sailing with optimal results. Prayers and thoughts will be with you all on Wednesday and with your surgeon. We will wait for your post to let us know how things went.

We have seen the Maven conquer so much over the years, and that is what has me convinced she WILL sail through this coming week! All of us on the other side of the country are sending good thoughts and strong prayers westward. Can't wait to hear from you later this week with news from the ER. I am holding all the Bostons close in my heart. Hope you can feel it...

Ann,

I have been keeping your family in my thoughts especially this past weekend, as surgery date drew closer.

Today, will be busy, and go by fast, I think.

The Maven will receive the best of care, and is in capable, expert hands.

With her family's love and support, and her own strengths she will come through with flying colours!

Take care,
I will be thinking of her and you tomorrow.
Hugs,
Brenda
