Some Good Deals and a New Project

My sharp-eyed daugther-in-law spied something curbside she thought I'd like to take my sander to.

Look at those good bones on this coffee table!  I don't know if it is truly mid-century modern, but it sure has the looks of it.

Solid wood, well-constructed and I think in pretty decent shape for something that most likely spent a good deal of time outside.

I have friends who are now thinking, "she's going to paint it!" Nope.
I'm going to strip it, sand it, stain it, wax it.
Hopefully bringing it back to it's original beautiful luster.

What say you out there - is it MCM? Would Don Draper like it?

Two more fun finds in a thrift I dove into in Long Beach when we were away a couple of weekends ago.

I have diligently been looking for a proper set of fireplace tools at garage sales and thrifts.
They were right there when I walked in!

 Wrought iron. Perfect! $15. Sold!

As Mr. T paid the lady for it I happened to spy a gem among the purses hanging on the wall.  At first I just liked the combination of straw and patent-leather and then I saw the tell-tale, MK.

Was sure it was going to be out of my price range.
$7.
It's mine now, it was clean and I can fit all my "stuff" in it.
All proceeds from this particular thrift went to benefit women and children.
Win/win.

Have you found anything fun/thrifty lately?

I am tired of painted furniture and love the way that wood is creeping back into fashion. What lovely bargains you have found.

I love the fireplace set. I've not found a great deal lately. I need a fireplace screen for my living room. Mine is in 3 pieces leaning up against the fireplace. I am hoping a garage sale will reveal one as they are expensive. That table will look great with a simple spit and polish.

Wow ! You are going to be busy ! Will look very good. I assume you had another fire to try out the fire place tools ? Then since you got a " new " purse that holds "everything" one must go out to show it off ~ The Grove ~ at least , right ?

Great stuff!
The table reminds me of the coffee table we had when I was growing up;they were given to my parents...so I'd say yes, MCM.

FOUR THINGS:
1.) I don't know any Don Draper.
2.) Go with the wood.
3.) Good tools are necessary for a proper fireplace...unless, you're down-right desperate ...and then, a shovel,an O'Cedar broom and pair of oven mitts will do the trick in a pinch.
4.)the purse...love it. I like the natural elements!

Pat

PS: it's probably best if the oven mitts aren't wet. :P

Can't wait to see the table after you do your magic. I might not have painted that one.
I bout my fireplace tools for MT at the thrift and packed them in my luggage! Good job...
Great purse find! I have a purse problem...
