Good Bones...and a Challenge.

I am endeavoring to do some furniture rehab this year.  After using a friend's sander to do a mini makeover on my old coffee table, I was stunned at how much easier it is to re-invent a peice of furniture.  Hence my request to Santa for one of these:

Actually it was Mr. Tennis who granted my wish and I couldn't be happier!  I knew right away what my first project would be:

An old side table that was my mother's.  I remember the year she got it for Christmas - way back in the 1970s and how happy she was to add it to her living room.  As you can see by the pictures, it's a very well-worn (well-loved?) piece that has been up in my attic since 2002, the year my mother passed away and I retrieved the table from her room at the nursing home.  The fact that my mother kept this table right up until the end of her life made me hold on to it until it was time to do right by it.

When my mother first got this table it was a rich, dark color with a high polished finish.  When we moved to Florida, she lighted it up a bit by painting the legs an off-white.  I'm not sure what I intend to do with it "finish-wise" yet, but I do intend to try out my new toy on it within the week!

From there on out it will be one project after another (she stated in a truly hopeful and delusional manner).

Oh, and you need to see the accompanying gift Mr. T gave me with the sander:

Swoon, a sander and then a massage.  What more can a girl ask for?

A sander? I love playing in sand but I am quite curious as to why you would want to put sand on the table. Mom says that sand belongs outside AND STOP PLAYING IN THE LITTER BOX. That massage sounds nice too, I love when people rub my back.
