Oscar Reflection and Sneak Peak at Progress....

Some in my family (including me) were disappointed I didn't get my act together for a "Boscars" post prior to the Academy Awards as I did last year. Take a peek if you dare...  I had hoped to make it an annual event, but perhaps it will be an every-other-year thing.

I've had my hands full helping some friends, getting some repairs done around the house and of course catching up on some tv and reading.  And, well, I must admit a certain amount of time was spent figuring out Pinterest and then looking at everything on there for-ever!

However, I did watch the ENTIRE broadcast last night and was pleased to see "The Artist" pick up a good number of awards. It was my pick for Best Picture because of it's originality and it's nod to the early days of film.

The category I felt the most ambivalence about was Best Actress.  I had wanted Michelle Williams to win for "My Week with Marilyn", thought Viola Davis would win it for "The Help" and was pleased nonetheless that Meryl Streep actually got the win for "The Iron Lady".  I loved her somewhat embarrassed acceptance speech, because that had actually been my inital reaction as well. "What? Again?!?!?"  But it is only her second win for Best Actress and after being nominated 17 times, it was time for her to win again.  Her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher was spectacular.

I also did some work on the hope chest I am refurbishing for The Maven.

Here is a picture of the design on the front before:

And here is a peak at it after some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint has been applied and some sanding has been done:

Still have to fine tune the look with some stain to deepen the exposed wood and apply some wax to finish and protect the whole piece.  I hope to get that done this week. And catch up with my favorite bloggers - going to to that right after I hit "publish"!

What will keep you busy this week and if you saw and cared about the awards, what did YOU think?

I have not kept up with the awards. Your post is the first I have heard about it-no tv here much. The ASCP looks wonderful. Well done.

Put me down as one of the people who missed not reading about your Oscar predictions this year, buy then I know how busy you have been. I got to see "The Artist" at the Sunday matenee, so glad I did. Good Oscar show.

Hey I watched the Oscars too - I don't don't know if it was just me, but I was a little disappointed. Can't get my mind wrapped around why though. It was okay. Love, sandie

OH that hope chest is going to look awesome...I need to try that paint sometime! I admit I had the Oscars on last night, but thought it was pretty boring this year...I actually got drafts for three blog posts done while I watched it! I really liked the acceptance speech for best supporting actress...I loved her in that movie!

It's looking good.

The only oscar films I have seen were the Help and Midnight in Paris. I liked the help but didn;t feel anything about it was OScar worthy.

I didn't like Billy's hosting at all.
I did love the Cirque de Soliel show, that amazes me.
Meryl is my idol so I was glad she won.
I was glad for who ever won I guess.
The trunk looks great!

Ann,
I didn't watch the Oscars, until near the end - and I was happy to see Spencer win the Best Supporting Actress - I watched the video of the movie just the evening before - and I was impressed with all the performances.I felt it was a powerful, and well done movie...and very true to the spirit of the novel, which I loved.

I was also glad that Christopher Plummer won his award, as I think he's a very fine actor, and it was nice to see, as he's getting to quite an age - and he's Canadian :). I didn't see his movie, or any of the other movies, just haven't been watching movies much.

I did watch The Kings's Speech, (which you reviewed in the Boscars :) ) - and loved it as well - and I didn't really expect to find it as interesting as I did.

The hope chest looks really nice! Your daughter will be pleased, I'll bet!!

This week, I'm not up to much - finishing a granny square baby blanket, and reading "Pride and Prejudice" on the Kindle. I am enjoying her writing - and finished "Northhanger Abbey" last week...the price for downloading these old classics is so reasonable, and often free.
And she was truly a wonderful writer! Did you see the movie "Sense and Sensibility" with Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant...I watched it many years ago, and loved it.
Have a great week, Ann!
