I was scrounging around the attic today looking for our suitcases for a weekend trip. My eye was caught by something I have seen up there a lot, but haven't looked at lately.
My Aunt Dot's suitcase.
We've all seen these old suitcases - my guess this one is from the 1940s, and their beautiful satin interiors. These suitcases were meant for thoughtful, sophisticated travel.
The original owners of these old suitcases would probably be very alarmed at the modern, wheeled, duffelbagged nature of the ones we have today.
I like the silky elegance of Aunt Dot's suitcase.
I sent these pictures to Sammy, because of course anything has a possible use in the upcoming wedding. I wonder if this will make it into the decor.
Oh, and I had forgotten what Aunt Dot's initials spelled out....

That suitcase was last used when she came to Florida in 1989, right ? Different style and elegance from that era ~ nothing like it today. Wonder if it can be fit into a wedding ?
Perfect! I wish I had my gramma's blue Samsonite set...I can see her all dressed up going on a trip with the train case in her hand...

I really love old suitcases but they seem to be very heavy. I want to make a side table out of three old ones and Joe just rolls his eyes when I say this.

What came to my mind when I saw aunt Dot's suitcase was: hat, . gloves, stockings, high heels,a traveling suit of course. Yes they were heavy but everything arrived the same way you packed it. it. Oh those good old days.......
Lovely that your aunt's suitcase is still in such great shape. I think things were made to last for a lifetime, and that people did take exquisite care of their possessions back then - as I can remember how my grandmother did, and sometimes I'd become abit impatient seeing it as fussiness. But now in our time perhaps we can learn some valuable lessons from this care.
Good for you for keeping this - it would be fun if it could be used in the wedding decor, wouldn't it.
