This Is Almost Embarrassing and Most Ridiculous! No, It IS Embarrassing!

Look what I found!!!!
Glasses!

Four pairs besides the ones I'm wearing!
None of them are my computer glasses!

In other news...

Of course I smudged out the numbers!  Don't you think I have enough people here calling my plate into the authorities for obstructing traffic!  I don't need some internet people doing it too!

My license plate gives me away as what we lovingly used to call in Orlando, land of the tourist, a "Touron".

Now that is what I am considered here as I inch along some streets (even with the GPS bossy lady) looking for the exact place to turn.

Or am distracted by unaccustomed sights from the roadway.

I saw many exasperated hands raised in frustration behind me today as I found my way around the various areas of the valley today.  I apologize to all of you.

I remember how I felt when I was behind an out-of-towner sometimes and got impatient.

Experience is a good teacher and I will be more patient in traffic when and if I get a local plate and see a
"touron" trying to negotiate the massive area that is LA County.

Hey, I could have been worse.  I got up on the CA-118 (they love to talk about the highways here) and was given the most spectacular view of the whole valley from it's West end. If I could have, I would have pulled over and taken a picture, but I didn't want to be on the news tonight.  I will return there and get that picture.  Just gorgeous.

Meanwhile, I will show you a little bit of our new 'hood, from one of our walks over the weekend.

I was a bit disappointed when I saw that my pictures didn't reflect the unique characteristics of the houses in this neighborhood properly - but hey the first set I was on my own, with these two, AND a poop bag. Sorry to be graphic.

Lots of these trees.  Cedar?  I haven't looked them up yet.

Houses built in the 1950s for the most part, all very different and most have such cute, well kept lawns as well.

For some reason I love the name of this street.  No other instrument names that I have seen yet.

A couple of the streets give us views of the Northern hills of the San Fernando Valley, which is where I was this afternoon apparently - slowing down traffic.

I have to get a better picture of this house.  I was trying not to appear like some kind of weirdo with a camera.

The Shabby Chic people will like this house starting with the distressed and older fence.

I've GOT to meet whoever lives here because I can just tell they like to look at the same things I do.  Maybe they will stumble across my blog!  Haven't seen them out yet.

You know who they are!

This house is neat as a pin and has great brick accents and a brick walkway.

Very friendly man lives here.  He seems to work out of his garage and has a huge painting of The Virgin Mary propped up and facing the street when the garage doors are open.

Pomegranates! The birds and squirrels are eating them.

A lot end up on the ground. Very strange for me to see these out of a grocery store.

Prettiest house on our block.  I've met the gentleman who lives here, but not his wife yet.  They've lived here over 20 years and it is such a treat to look at.

Well, as my brother would say: "That's all the news that's fit to print".

No, actually, one more thing.

I've sent out a lot of postcards to friends and family with little notes and our new address. Some have come back!  Because the new address was on it as well!  Hmmmmph!
I will send them in envelopes....

And maybe, just maybe, I will have found those darn glasses!

Ha! Ann...you're so funny!
I love the 'Touron'... I got that right way and almost spit my drink!

Thanks for the new perspective...
as to the scenery while driving. Wait until you're the passenger before trying to snap photos on the hi-way. I don't care how beautiful it is...You be a careful 'Touron'!

Love the neighborhood pictures too...cute houses!

It looks like you are getting out and getting acquainted with your new town! I love the pretty neighborhoods..they are so well kept! I hope you find your glasses and have some fun along the way! Are the puppies feeling peppier now? Are they settling in? Hugs from FL!

Loved walking the neighborhood with you! What in the world do you DO with all those glasses? Do any of them "work" anymore?

I'll have to read some of your earlier posts to see if you've discovered any good thrift stores in your new haunts....

WELL ~ I guess you NEVER heard the storiess from Mother about driving in Montreal when the car still had a license plate from West Virigina. Right hand turn from left hand lane ~ no problem ~ cut in here ~ cut in there ~ driving in a big city ~ no problem. After WE got Quebec Plates ~ Very good thing she didn't understand French. Three times as long to get anywhere ~ darn foreign drivers. What fun ! Very nice neighborhood in Sunny Calif. Movie stars in the area ?

I'm so glad you found such a lovely neighborhood to move to! I love all of those old retro looking houses. They all look very well kept up too. I can't imagine finding pomgranates on the ground like that! I tried one for the first time 2 years ago and didn't care for them. You'll have to keep your old plates and hang them in the garage for a memento of your old life.

The yards are a lot smaller but the trees and plants are very interesting.

I love the nice, wide sidewalks for taking your strolls. Sorry about people getting impatient with you. At least your license plate provides some explanation to them.

As for the glasses, sigh, my husband is like that. Subsequently we have five complete sets of keys from all the times he has "lost" his.

Don't let the townies get to you....soon you'll be able to travel without that GPS.

The neighborhood looks great...I do love bungalows.

Ah come on Ann look like a weirdo with a camera like I do all the time. Maybe your glasses are in Florida? The houses are charming and what a climate there must be there all 12 months. Imagine how you can grow flowers. hugs, olive

It is beautiful out there and the houses are adorable. They look for the most part extremely well kept. You are lucky to be out there.

I love your glasses collection. Maybe you can put them beside your Ball jars. :-) the first house looks like some of the ones in Orlando that haave holes near the roof line for i always assumed bird nests. I always wondered who came up with that house design. I find it even odder that they are in the LA area, too. I've never seen them anywhere else in all of my travels. glad to seen that you are getting to know your neighborhood and some of your neighbors. Now you know how I felt driving in Manhattan with a Florida tag. :-)CG

I enjoyed everything about your walking tour, Ann. The houses are cute, and very well kept. I think the lemon yellow one is very pretty. And how nice to have pomegrantes growing locally there.
It looks like the Bostons and Stanley enjoyed the walk as well!

The scenes you see while driving are really beautiful.

Happy and safe driving, Ann!
Perhaps it's time to shop for new computer glasses, after all! :)

Hi Ann,

Thanks for taking me for a walk in your neighborhood. I like the pretty house with the fence and the shabby chic house with the lace iron work by the front door. They are so cute and the lawn are so neat. I am glad you are out meeting your new neighbors, they are lucky to have you as their neighbor.
Take adventace of the "Touron" with your old tag, before you know it, you would be the one without the GPS and calling others " Touron ".
It is neat to see pomegranates up on the tree, Alexandria and Jeb loves those! It takes a little bit of work to eat them.
I hope you find your glasses soon.
